Welcome to Shaw’s Bounty

Welcome to Shaw’s Bounty

The 75 homes in today’s Shaw’s Bounty neighborhood sit on land that General Oglethorpe granted to John Shaw, a poor hatter, in the mid-1700s. The property developers said in their 1980s brochure that the land grant was probably a reward for Shaw’s faithful service in the famous Battle of Bloody Marsh on July 7, 1742.

The entrance to Shaw’s Bounty and its eastern boundary is Frederica Road. The developer named the four roads inside Shaw’s Bounty—Settlers, Five Pounds, John Shaw, and Jacobs—in honor of the property’s history. Three roads end in cul de sacs at the marsh’s edge, forming the western boundary. Wildlife abounds along the tidal creek that flows through the marsh in and out of the Five Pounds Road Pond and at the freshwater pond between Jacobs and Settlers. Residents have preserved the land’s natural beauty with its live oaks, sweet gum trees, and pines. They have kept the Shaw’s Bounty Home Owners Association active for 48 years.

The SBHOA’s purpose is to preserve the neighborhood’s natural beauty by supporting the scope and restrictions of the subdivision’s covenants. Thus, the Association promotes the general welfare and improves the appearance and value of all property in the community.

Membership: Every residential lot owner is a member of the Association.

Dues: The Board of Directors establishes the annual assessment in the fall before the Association’s December Annual Meeting. Members pay the dues by February 1 of each year. The yearly dues for 2025 are $250.

Meetings: The annual general membership meeting is held on the first Tuesday in December. The Board of Directors may also call special meetings, but this is rare.

Board: The association members elect nine board members in December. The board members elect officers at their first meeting in January. You can see the list of officers and board members by clicking here.

Committees: The SBHOA Board has two standing committees: the Social Committee and the Architectural and Landscape Design Review Committee. A board member chairs each.
